This painting stands alone and is the only thing like it that Kai has made. Driving late one night, she passed an abandoned couch on a backroad. Instead of continuing to drive, she had to stop, backup, and capture it in a photograph. Her car’s headlights illuminate the couch in this painting and is the only source of light in the reference.

Imagine all the memories that must’ve been made on that thing. Imagine all the company, the laughs, the serious talks, the arguments, only for it to end up on a sketchy, abandoned road. It has experienced life and, who knows, that thing may have already lived a lifetime. And we’ll never know all the stories it holds. Such an intimate part of a home, abandoned like that.
