Aside from being a ubiquitous symbol for Feminist Art and the Feminist movement, Frida Kahlo is a symbol of human determination and perseverance. A Mexican painter and activist, she sought to promote Mexico’s identity in a post-Colonial light. She was the first Mexican artist to have work hung in the Louvre. This image of her, circulated via the internet is actually a blend of a Patti Smith photo with Mrs. Kahlo’s visage added in place. However, the defiant tone of the photo speaks to Frida’s enduring legacy. This six-layer stencil is the last of a series of five.
